ELITE HITTERS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (SESSION 1)

This is an exhaustive hitting program that runs during the months of November, December and January. The program is designed to assist the player in developing bat speed, improved swing mechanics, pitch recognition and an in-game hitting plan.  Classes will meet twice per week for one hour sessions (10-18 year olds). Shaun Vernesoni will lead the instruction.

THROWING VELOCITY & ARM CARE PROGRAM (SESSION 1)

This is a six week program designed to assist all players in the development of throwing velocity while also learning proper arm care management techniques that can be applied moving forward. Sessions will be offered four times per week from 8:00pm to 9:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Keystone State Academy instructor Joe Hruska will lead the instruction for this program. * Participants will have the opportunity to register for one session per week (6 total sessions) or for two sessions per week (12 total sessions).

* * Participants selecting the One Session Per Week option will be able to pick the night they would like to participate each week. The night that each partcipant attends may vary from one week to the next depending on their schedule. (REGISTRATION FEE FOR ONE SESSION PER WEEK = $200)

* Participants selecting the Two Sessions Per Week option will be able to pick the two nights they would like to participate each week. The nights that each partcipant attends may vary from one week to the next depending on their schedule. Players may not particiipate on successive nights in order to allow for adequate rest and arm recovery. Players may choose to participate on M/W, M/TH, or T/TH in a given week. (REGISTRATION FEE FOR TWO SESSIONS PER WEEK = $350)

Joel Buchko Catchers Camps (Session 2) - January 9, 16 & 23

Image result for Joel Buchko sailfish baseballBuchko played collegiately four four years at Cecil College, a Junior College in Maryland, and at Palm Beach Atlantic University, an NCAA Division II program in the Sunshine State Conference. He was the starting catcher of the 2011 Junior College World Series team that finished 5th in the nation. Buchko received the ICAA Player of the Year in 2013 while playing in Florida. Currently he is finishing his degree in Early Childhood Education at Millersville University where he has been a student Assistant Coach the past two years working with the catchers, 1st basemen and hitters. Buchko has also been giving weekly catching and hitting lessons with players aged 6-18 over the past two years.

Camp Format

This is a Three week camp that will run on three consecutive Mondays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm beginning on January 9th. All participants have the ability to register for individual camp sessions at $40 per week or for the entire four week camp at a reduced rate of $130.

Week One (January 9, 6:00pm-7:00pm)
- Warm-ups, conditioning, three stances, receiving with & without base runners, backing up first base, blocking and recovering

Week Two (January 16, 6:00pm-7:00pm)
- Warm-ups, conditioning, review receiving and blocking, proper throwing techniques, throws to 1B, 2B & 3B

Week Three (January 23, 6:00pm-7:00pm)
- Warm-ups, conditioning, review throwing techniques, passed balls at plate, blocked third strike and throws to 1B, plays at the plate from infield and outfield

Cost
- Any individual session ($40); Full three week camp ($100)

 
 

Melvin Dorta Defensive Instruction Clinic 

This is a four session program designed to assist all players in the development defensive skills emphasizing the skills needed to be an effective defender anywhere on the baseball diamond. Sessions will be offered on four Wednesdays in January from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Former Major Leaguer Melvin Dorta will lead the instruction for this program. Melvin Dorta brings a wealth of playing, coaching and instruction background to Keystone State Academy. Dorta was signed as a Free Agent by the Boston Red Sox as a 16 year old out of Venezuela in 1999. In 2001 he led the Gulf Coast League with a .408 average. Dorta was an Eastern League All-Star in 2005 (Harrisburg Senators) and in 2006 (Altoona Curve). In 2006 he led the Washington Nationals organization in steals with 36. Dorta was promoted from AA Harrisburg to the Washington Nationals in 2006. Following his playing career Dorta moved into coaching and most recently coached with the Harrisburg Senators in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to offering private, small group and team instruction, Melvin also heads the MAD Baseball travel organization that he began in 2015. A total of seven MAD baseball teams comprised of players from central and eastern Pennsylvania train during the winter at Keystone State Baseball Academy and participate in travel tournaments throughout Pennsylvania and the eastern United States during the spring, summer and fall. 

Dorta specializes in hitting and infield defense instruction, but has a well rounded background instructing all areas of the game.

All players will be directed through a stretching and warm-up program prior to the start of the workout. Once players are ready to go, the workout will be run similar to a traditional pro-style showcase that includes the following:

• 60-yard dash and shuttle times
• High jump, broad jump and/or other applicable "measurables"
• OF workout - fly balls w/throws
• IF workout - ground balls w/throws
• Offensive workout - including tee work and live hitting
• Catchers session - receiving / blocking / pop times
• Pitchers session - bullpen session
• Workouts will include a comprehensive informational meeting for athletes and families.
• Players will be recorded throughout their workout for further video evaluation by the Ohio Valley NTIS Task Force after the event.
• Video and "measurable" feedback may be made available to participants at an additional cost.

General Information

 

Open to all players 11U, 13U, 14U, 16U & 17U
17U - birthdates during 2000 only
16U - birthdates during 2001 & 2002
14U - birthdates during 2003 only
13U - birthdates during 2004 & 2005
11U - birthdates during 2006 & 2007

The current international age determination date rule states your birthday must fall on January 1 or later of a specified year to be eligible for particular age groups. The age a player reaches during the calendar year of the international competition will serve as his competition age.

Please come dressed in proper baseball attire (baseball pants, T-shirt, baseball socks, hat and belt) and prepared with all baseball equipment. Turf shoes are recommended for all indoor events. The use of metal cleats for outdoor events will determined by each facility. Please check for event specifics prior to the event.

Camp Check-in

 

Upon arrival at the Host Location facility, potential Team USA players should check-in at the designated area by verifying registration and follow up contact info. Check-in will begin one half hour prior to the event.

Informational Meeting: One of our top priorities at all Ohio Valley NTIS Identification Events is to ensure that our players and families walk away with a good understanding of the process it takes to make it to Team USA. After check-in has been completed and the player's workout begins, all parents/family members are asked to attend the Ohio Valley NTIS Informational Meeting. We are happy to answer any and all questions regarding the program and its process at this time.

Miscellaneous Information

 

Official Cancellation Policy for all USA Baseball NTIS events:
Cancellations up to 8 days prior to the start of the event will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee. No exceptions will be made. The participating player will receive their refund within 30 days of the time of cancellation. Cancellations within 7 days of the start of the event will forfeit the entire registration fee. No exceptions will be made.
